TCS names Amit Kapur to lead new AI and services transformation unit

Bengaluru: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has appointed Amit Kapur to head its newly created AI and services transformation unit, Reuters reported, citing a company memo it reviewed on Tuesday.

His appointment will take effect from September.

The move comes as Indian IT firms accelerate efforts to integrate and offer artificial intelligence solutions to clients, hoping to spur technology spending that has remained sluggish for several quarters.

“Over the last few years, TCS has made major forays on the AI front by scaling our capabilities, reskilling our workforce and deepening our partnerships,” the company noted in the memo.

The announcement follows TCS’ recent decision to slash 12,000 jobs, fuelling concerns that India’s $283 billion outsourcing industry may face further layoffs as AI adoption expands.

TCS did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on Kapur’s appointment.
