New Delhi: The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), India’s top automobile industry body, has elected Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, as its new president for the 2024-25 term.

Chandra, who previously served as  SIAM's Vice President, succeeds Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles.

His appointment was finalized at SIAM's Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday.

The committee also announced other key positions--Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, was elected Vice President, and Satyakam Arya, CEO and Managing Director of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, will serve as Treasurer.

Chandra, with extensive experience in the industry and a focus on electric mobility at Tata Motors, is expected to bolster SIAM's efforts to advance the Indian automobile sector’s economic contribution while prioritizing sustainability and safety.

SIAM represents India’s major vehicle and engine manufacturers and aims to promote industry efficiency, economic growth, and social and environmental responsibility, including road safety and pollution control.
