Tata Electronics acquires 60% stake in Pegatron India to boost iPhone manufacturing
Bengaluru: Tata Group's electronics manufacturing arm, Tata Electronics, has announced its acquisition of a 60% controlling stake in Pegatron Technology India Private Limited (PTI), reported Business Standard.
While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the move is expected to boost local iPhone production.
This acquisition follows Tata Electronics’ earlier purchase of Wistron’s Indian operations in March 2024.
Under the agreement, Tata Electronics and PTI will integrate their teams to ensure seamless operations.
PTI will also undergo rebranding to align with its new ownership structure and strategic direction while continuing to provide top-quality electronics manufacturing services.
This acquisition strengthens Tata Electronics’ position as a significant player in India’s electronics manufacturing industry.
The announcement comes after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved Tata Electronics’ majority stake acquisition in PTI.
In addition to its partnerships with Pegatron and Wistron, Tata Electronics is establishing another manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, to further expand iPhone production in India.
Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD of Tata Electronics, remarked, “The acquisition of a majority stake in Pegatron Technology India Private Limited fits into Tata Electronics’ strategy of growing our manufacturing footprint. We look forward to a new era of AI, digital, and technology-led manufacturing as we bring up these new facilities and expand our operations in India.”
Pegatron India, a subsidiary of Taiwan’s Pegatron Corporation, has been a contract manufacturer for global companies like Apple, providing electronics manufacturing services.
