Sensex drops 105.2 points

New Delhi: Extending losses for the fourth straight session on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex slipped 105.82 points to close at 54,364.71 owing to selling in Realty, Utilities, Metal and Materials stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too dipped 61.80 points at 16,240.05. In early trade, the Sensex tumbled down 534 pts at 54,309.

During the day, it was crashed 609 pts at 54,226.33 days low, before closing at 54,364.85, down 105.82 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 54,857.02 and 54,226.33 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 16,404.55 and 16,197.30 respectively.

The sectoral indices like Realty Utilities, Power, Metal and Materials kept the market down.

In scrips, Tata Steel was a major loser, fell by 6.95 pc to Rs 1165.40, followed by Sun Pharma by 2.74 pc to Rs 861.10, NTPC by 2.33 pc to Rs 155.30, Titan by 2.15 pc to Rs 2135.65 and Bajaj finance by 1.80 pc to Rs 5929.95.

The gainers were Hind Unilever by 3.24 pc to Rs 2184.10, Asian Paints by 2.46 pc to Rs 3083.70, IndusInd Bank by 2.32 pc to Rs 910 and Ultracemco by 2.22 pc to Rs 6366.55.

The Mid Cap eased by 1.98 pc and Small Cap by 2.11 pc. In 30 scrips, 12 advanced while 18 declined. Asian Market was seen weak today as Australia fell by 0.99 pc, Hong Kong by 1.75 pc and Japan by 0.58 pc.
