Seoul: Samsung Electronics has confirmed the passing of its co-CEO Han Jong-hee at the age of 63, according to media reports.

Han oversaw the company’s consumer electronics and mobile devices division, while co-CEO Jun Young-hyun managed the semiconductor business. Samsung has yet to announce Han’s successor.

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Inha University.

Between 2011 and 2013, he led the Product R&D Team within the Visual Display Business, later heading the division in 2017. In 2021, he was appointed Vice Chairman and CEO.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Han played a key role in the development and marketing of Samsung’s TV business.

He is survived by his wife and children.

As per a Samsung spokesperson cited by Reuters, Han passed away due to cardiac arrest. No further details have been disclosed.

Analyticsinsight.net estimated Han's net worth at approximately $971,291 as of November 30, 2024.

The outlet, referencing data from simplywall.st, reported that his annual compensation was ₩6.90 billion (about $4.83 million).

However, these figures remain unverified.

Han was also a board member at Samsung and recently chaired the company’s shareholder meeting.

The tech giant had struggled as one of last year’s worst-performing stocks.

According to media reports, Han had apologised to shareholders for the recent stock performance not meeting their expectations.

He acknowledged that the company had failed to adequately respond to the rapidly evolving AI semiconductor market.

Han was scheduled to attend Samsung’s home appliance launch event on Wednesday.
