Petrol and diesel prices hiked after 19 days

New Delhi, May 14 (IBNS) : Petrol and diesel prices were hiked after a gap of 19 days on Monday, reports said.

The prices were increased two days after the Karnataka Assembly elections.

In Delhi, petrol price was hiked to Rs 74.80 per litre from Rs 74.63 while diesel rates were increased to Rs 66.14 a litre from Rs 65.93.

Petrol prices went up by 17 paise in Delhi and Mumbai and by 18 paise a litre Kolkata and Chennai.

Diesel prices have been raised by 21 paise a litre in Delhi, 5 paise in Kolkata, and 23 paise in Mumbai and Chennai, according to Indian Oil's website - iocl.com.

Karnataka voted on Saturday for a new assembly and the results will be announced on Tuesday.

On May 14, petrol retailed at Rs. 74.8 per litre in Delhi, Rs. 77.5 per litre in Kolkata, Rs.82.65 per litre in Mumbai and Rs. 77.61 per litre in Chennai. Diesel prices were at Rs.66.14 per litre, Rs. 68.68 per litre, Rs. 70.43 per litre and Rs. 69.79 per litre.
