ONDC aims for 100,000 daily order volume in next few months: Report

New Delhi: Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is targeting a daily order volume of 100,000 in the retail segment in the coming months, Moneycontrol reported.

ONDC is planning to launch an updated version of its network design and agreements, which is anticipated to introduce new features and enhance the overall customer experience, the report said citing sources.

According to an industry source, the target of 100,000 orders was announced at the ONDC Elevate event earlier in the week, in the presence of all the network participants (NPs) and government officials, Moneycontrol reported.

The source further mentioned that this achievement is expected to occur in the next few months as NPs embrace a new set of network specifications.

It was also mentioned that the current version in use is 1.1, and the upcoming 1.2 version will bring improvements such as enhanced order tracking, additional order fulfillment options like in-store pick-ups, and increased automation of the grievance redressal process, among other enhancements.

While the 1.1 version was rolled out in March, the 1,2 version is expected to roll out by June.

Another source told Moneycontrol that it is expected that the forthcoming version would be further refined in terms of network design and elevate the customer experience on ONDC to the level of top e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart.

A senior government official said during the event that the network would gradually move away from relying heavily on significant incentives for customers as such practices by prominent e-commerce platforms have had a negative impact on small-scale sellers in the country, the report said citing a source.

Since March, there has been a rapid growth in transaction volume on ONDC.

In the retail segment, there was a notable surge, with daily orders surpassing 25,000, while the mobility segment witnessed over 34,000 rides per day during the first week of May, the report said.

This substantial growth was largely driven by the introductory incentives offered by ONDC, as well as discounting schemes introduced by network participants like Paytm, PhonePe, Magicpin, and several sellers, it added.
