Market bloodbath! Sensex crashes 148 points, Nifty slips below 25,550 — what triggered the sell-off?

Mumbai/IBNS: The Indian stock market ended in red on Thursday as BSE Sensex tanked 148.14 points and Nifty crashed below 25,550 at the closing bell.

Sensex settled at 83,311.01 while Nifty settled at 25,509.70.

Five stocks - ICICI Bank, Eternal, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid and Bajaj Finance- have heavily dragged Sensex down.

The BSE Metal index tanked 2.03% to settle at 34.058.31 while the BSE Oil & Gas index went down by 0.57% to 28,632.24.

Media, metal, consumer durables, energy, banking stocks massively contributed to the decline.

IT and auto indices could manage to end in green, a ray of hope for the market.

  • Varvee Global Ltd: ₹143.46, +5.00%.
  • GSM Foils Ltd: ₹223.70, +5.00%.
