Imphal/IBNS: The Governments of Japan and the northeastern state of Manipur in India have come to an agreement to initiate new projects for the Manipuri youths.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and Japan delegate Suzuki Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to India, held talks regarding several developmental matters pertaining to Manipur and Japan, reported Northeast Now.

Both parties expressed their commitment to strengthening the amicable relationship between Japan and Manipur.

These projects aim to provide better job opportunities for Manipuri youths, including skilling programs, that could potentially lead to employment in Japan or other regions of the world.

The Japanese Ambassador paid a visit to the office of the Manipur Chief Minister, where they held a meeting on Thursday.

The Chief Minister stated on a Facebook post, “I was called on by Mr. Suzuki Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to India at my secretariat office today.”

“Had a fruitful discussion concerning various projects in Manipur, including skilling of Manipuri youths to provide them better job opportunities in Japan and other parts of the world," he wrote.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude for Japan's cordial approach in maintaining its alliance and dedication towards the progress of Manipur.

Additionally, he urged the Japanese envoy to oversee the progress of the second phase of Japan's sericulture project. It was reported that the initial Japanese sericulture initiative in Manipur had yielded positive results.

Manipur has had a close relationship with Japan since the Second World War.

Maibam Lokpa Ching, a hillock located approximately 14 km from Imphal, is a significant location in Manipur's history. This is where the Japanese Army engaged in intense warfare against the British Army of the Allied forces during World War II.

Nowadays, the site is home to a peace memorial that draws many tourists.
