India’s electronics boom gets a big push: MeitY approves 31 projects worth Rs 6,844 crore

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has approved 31 additional proposals under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), involving a projected investment of Rs 6,844 crore.

The approvals come in continuation of the 75 applications involving an investment of Rs 61,671 crore announced earlier.

The approval letters were handed over at an event in New Delhi organised in collaboration with the Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA).

The event was attended by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Railways and Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, Joint Secretary Sushil Pal, and ELCINA President Sasikumar Gendham.

Speaking at the event, Vaishnaw said the ECMS was accelerating the development of a robust and deep-rooted ‘Swadeshi’ electronics value chain, moving beyond assembly towards domestic manufacturing of critical components and essential raw materials.

“Of the 106 projects approved so far, including 31 approved today, 38 plants have already commenced manufacturing, while another 16 projects are at advanced stages of construction or machinery installation,” he said.

The latest approvals include the first-ever domestic manufacturing of several critical components, including filters, coils and speakers, as well as essential raw materials such as acetylene black and electrolyte additives.

The scheme is aimed at strengthening self-reliance and driving economic growth by expanding domestic production capabilities. According to MeitY, production capacity in several key segments is now sufficient to meet the entire domestic demand.

Output has already exceeded domestic demand in areas such as anode material at around 110 per cent, Optical Transceiver-SFP at 350 per cent and relays at 200 per cent, the ministry said.

The 106 projects approved under ECMS so far are expected to generate 74,628 direct jobs and 2.5 lakh indirect employment opportunities, with a total approved investment of Rs 69,548 crore across 15 states.

The 31 projects approved in the latest round alone are expected to generate 9,588 direct jobs.

Taken together, the latest approvals involve an investment of Rs 7,877 crore, including an additional investment proposal from an existing approved applicant, with projected production of Rs 82,243 crore and 9,588 direct employment opportunities.

MeitY has also approved an additional investment of Rs 1,033 crore by existing applicant Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials Private Limited for manufacturing copper-clad laminate.

20 Target Segments Covered

The latest approvals cover manufacturing across 20 target-segment products, spanning sub-assemblies, components, supply-chain products and capital goods.

These include:

Three sub-assemblies: Camera Module, Display Module and Optical Transceiver-SFP

10 components: Enclosures, Connectors, Transducers, Speakers and Microphones, Relays, Antennas, Coils, Filters, Capacitors and Metal Shielding Covers

Six supply-chain products: Anode Material, Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, Acetylene Black, Electrolyte Additives, Metallized Films for Capacitors and Hermetic Terminals
Capital goods and their parts

The approved projects are spread across 10 states — Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand — further expanding the geographical footprint of electronics component manufacturing in India.

Some applicants have proposed investments across multiple locations and states.

Key Project Approvals

In the sub-assembly category, approvals for Display Module Sub-Assembly have been granted to Minda Instrument Limited and TXB Optics Private Limited, while SkyQuad Electronics & Appliances Private Limited has received approval for manufacturing Camera Module Sub-Assemblies.

For Optical Transceiver-SFP, approvals have been granted to SFO Technologies Private Limited, GX Quantum Photonics Private Limited and Huber Suhner Electronics Private Limited.

In the components category, approvals include:

Connectors: Amphenol Interconnect India, Ennovi bility Solutions India and Rosenberger Interconnect India

Relays: Allied Engineering Works and Gruner India

Transducers: Centum Electronics and Sensata Technologies India

Filters: Centum Electronics

Capacitors: Globe Capacitors

Coils: Syrma SGS Technology

Metal Shielding Covers: Wangda Technologies

Speakers and Microphones: Brandworks Precision Manufacturing

Antennas: Britannia RFID Technologies India

Enclosures: Micromax Precision Moulding

To deepen the domestic electronics supply chain, approvals have also been granted for several critical materials and products.

Epsilon C2GR Private Limited has received approval for anode material, a key component for lithium-ion cells, while Quantum Magnetics Private Limited has been approved for rare-earth permanent magnets.

PCBL Chemical Limited has received approval for acetylene black, a conductive additive used in lithium-ion cells, while Acutaas Chemicals Limited has been approved for electrolyte additives.

Approval for metallised films for capacitors has been granted to Capfilm India Private Limited, while JJ Glastronics Private Limited has received approval for hermetic terminals, which are used to create leak-proof electrical pathways through sealed barriers.

The additional investment proposal of Rs 1,033 crore from Wipro Global Engineering and Electronic Materials Private Limited for manufacturing copper-clad laminate has also been approved.

Push for Domestic Capital Goods Manufacturing

The latest approvals also continue the government's focus on developing domestic manufacturing capabilities in capital goods and their components.

Approvals in this segment have been granted to Jyoti CNC Automation Limited, VVDN Technologies Private Limited, Accurate Gauging and Instruments Pvt Ltd, Mitsubishi Electric India Private Limited and Ind Sphinx Precision Limited.

With the latest approvals, a total of 106 applications covering 30 products across 15 states have now been approved under the ECMS.

These projects represent an expected investment of Rs 69,548 crore, projected production of Rs 5,34,101 crore and expected direct employment of 74,628 people, further strengthening India's push towards a self-reliant and globally competitive electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
