Indian Market: Sensex up 672.71 points

Mumbai/UNI: Extending gains for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, the BSE Sensex spurted 672.71 points to close at 59,855.93 on the strength of power, utilities, energy and bankex stocks.

The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too surged 179.55 points at 17,805.25.

The day opened on a strong note at 59,343.79, rising 160 points. During the session, it edged up 754 points at 59,937.33, the day's high, before closing at 59,855.83, advancing 672.71 points from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the day's high and low at 59,937.33 and 59,084.40 respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day's high and low at 17,827.60 and 17,593.55 respectively.
Sectoral indices like power, utilities, energy, oil and gas and bankex kept the rally intact for the third day on Tuesday.

Power and utilities gained 2.25 and 2.18 per cent respectively. Energy and oil and gas moved up 1.77 and 1.16 per cent respectively.

Similarly, Bankex too advanced 1.31 per cent.

In scrips, NTPC was a star gainer, 5.48 per cent at Rs 132.90 followed by Powergrid by 2.73 per cent to Rs 210.50, SBI by 2.69 per cent to Rs 483.50, Titan by 2.31 per cent to Rs 2,582, Reliance Industries by 2.22 per cent to Rs 2,457.75 and TCS by 1.69 per cent to Rs 3,882.70.

The losers were Sun Pharma by 1.21 per cent to Rs 837.95, IndusInd Bank by 0.90 per cent to Rs 904.20, Ultracemco by 0.85 per cent to Rs 7,655.80, Dr Reddy's Lab by 0.36 per cent to Rs 4,835.70 and Infosys by 0.06 per cent to Rs 1,886.25.

The Mid Cap rose by 0.05 per cent and Small Cap by 0.39 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 25 advanced while 5 declined.

A mixed picture was seen in the Asian Market.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index fell 0.15 per cent and the Shanghai composite slipped 0.36 per cent, and the Shenzhen component shed 0.79 per cent.

While the Nikkei 225 in Japan climbed 1.77 per cent, the Topix index gained 1.91 per cent.
