Indian Market: Sensex falls by 28.73 points

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Wednesday ended weak at 54,525.93, declining by 28.73 points at close, on profit booking by local operators.

While, the Nifty rose marginally by 2.15 points to close at 16,282.25.

High volatility was witnessed during the session.

With yesterday's all time high, the Sensex advanced 176 points to open at 54,730.65. It surged by 204 points to reach 54,758.74, the days high.

Later, it dropped nearly 387 points to 54,167.20, the days low before closing at 54,525.93, easing 28.73 points from its previous close.

The Sensex registered the days high and low at 54,758.74 and 54,167.20 points respectively.

The Nifty recorded the days high and low at 16,338.75 and 16,162.55 points respectively.

The sectoral indices like Health Care, Bankex, Consumer Durable, Finance and Auto dragged the market.

In scrips, Kotak Bank was a major loser, down by 1.90 per cent to close at Rs 1778.25 followed by Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, Nestle India and ICICI Bank slipped while buying in Tata Steel, NTPC, Powergrid and Reliance Industries capped from further losses.

The Mid Cap fell by 0.22 per cent and Small Cap by 0.83 per cent.

In 30 scrips, 13 advanced while 17 declined.

Asian Market was seen weak as Straits Times down by 0.85 per cent followed by Taiwan Weighted by 0.56 per cent and Kospi by 0.70 per cent.
