French sports brand Decathlon opens second outlet in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Leading French sports goods retailer Decathlon opened its second outlet located in Kolkata in the heart of the city.

Its first outlet is located in the city’s eastern neighbourhood, Salt Lake Sector V.

Consul General of France, Kolkata, was present at the opening ceremony of the new store on July 23.

Kuldeep Das, City Leader, who was also present at the Shakespeare Sarani store opening said, "Seeing the passion for sports at Maidan and among the educational institutes around Park Street, we are very happy to be able to serve their sporting needs one step closer."

According to the company, it is focusing on eco-friendly products, with currently 18 per cent of the products being eco-friendly; it plans to produce 100 per cent eco-friendly products in the coming few years.

The company said it is working with Jungle Crows and Terra Indica to provide vocational training and employment to underprivileged children by training them to get National Skill Development Certificates and find gainful employment.

Five of the graduates from this program will be working in Decathlon Shakespeare Sarani as well.

The new store is over 1,000 sq m in area, and includes a repair workshop for its cycles, cardio equipment, roller skates and more.

The company has its own dedicated product design and development team and over 40 per cent of its products sold are made in India, said the company.

The new store will be open daily from 11am - 7pm
