Desh Bandhu Gupta, founder of multinational pharma company Lupin, passes away

Mumbai, Jun 27 (IBNS): Desh Bandhu Gupta, 79, a key figure in the Indian pharmaceutical industry and the founder of multinational phrma company, Lupin, passed away on Monday.

His death has been mourned by political leaders and industry stalwarts alike.

Tweeted Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, "Saddened by passing away of #DeshBandhuGupta ji founder of @LupinLimited,visionary,philanthropist,founded #lupin foundation.Condolences RIP."

"Founder of @LupinLimited Shri Desh Bandhu Gupta passed away. Lupin has generated employments for many People in Vadodara. My condolences," tweeted Vadodara MP, Ranjan Bhatt.

The media quoted Yusuh Hamied, Chairman, Cipla, as saying, "Under his personal guidance, Lupin has grown to now being the second largest pharma company in India."

Popularly known as DB of DBG to his friends, Gupta is survived by his wife and five children.

Desh Bandhu Gupta founded Lupin in 1968. The company's current market capital of Rs 48,000 crore, makes it the second largest pharma company by revenue in India, after Sun Pharma, media reported.
