Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal's AAP-led govt presents budget of Rs 78,800 cr for 2023-24

New Delhi: Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot presented his first and AAP government’s 9th budget in the Assembly on Wednesday with an outlay of Rs 78,800 crore budget estimate for the financial year 2023-24, focusing on cleaning Yamuna and removal of three mountains of garbage, infrastructure, education and health.

The theme of this year's budget is “Saaf Sundar aur Aadhunik Dilli”. Last year the AAP- led Delhi government presented the “Rozgar Budget”, while the first budget of this government was themed on “Swaraj”.

Gahlot said that the government will work with the civic body to clear three mountains of garbage of Delhi, Okhla landfill will be removed by December 2023, Bhalswa by March 2024 and Ghazipur by December 2024, there will be a budget of Rs 850 crore for this project.

On Yamuna cleaning, he added that the Delhi government has been working on a six-point action plan.

Gahlot further said nine different schemes and projects to develop Delhi road networks, 26 new flyovers and underpasses, and three double-decker flyovers will be built, and 1400 kms Public Works Department road will be beautified.

Rs 16575 cr was allocated for the education, Rs 9742 cr for health, Rs 3348 cr for energy, Rs 6342 cr for water supply & sanitation and Rs 9337 cr for transport, roads and bridges.

The Delhi government will provide financial assistance of Rs 8241cr to local bodies, Rs 2059 crore for the implementation of plans, programs and projects, Rs 2240 cr for stamp and One Time Parking and Rs 850 crores are being given as loans, the Minister said.

Mohalla bus scheme will be introduced for the last mile connectivity, under this scheme small electric buses of 9 meters will be run.

At present, around 7389 buses are in the transport fleet which will increase to 10,480 buses in which 80 per cent will be electric buses by 2025, he said. Around 900 Electric Vehicle charging points and 103 battery swapping points will be built in the national capital, he added.

Gahlot said that there are nine different schemes and projects to develop the city road network. 14,00 new bus shelters and new electric buses will come. 26 new flyovers and under passes will be built and three unique double-decker flyovers will be constructed in collaboration with DMRC.
