DAC greenlights 10 capital acquisition proposals valued at Rs 1.45 lakh crore to boost Indian defence

New Delhi: The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Tuesday, granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 10 capital acquisition proposals worth Rs 1,44,716 crore.

Of this amount, 99% is allocated to indigenous sources under the Buy (Indian) and Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) categories, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

The proposal for procuring Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) for modernizing the Indian Army's tank fleet has been approved.

The FRCV will be an advanced Main Battle Tank, offering superior mobility, all-terrain capability, multilayered protection, precise and lethal firepower, and real-time situational awareness.

Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) has also been granted for the acquisition of Air Defence Fire Control Radars, which will be used to detect and track aerial targets and provide firing solutions.

Additionally, the proposal for Forward Repair Team (Tracked) equipment, designed and developed by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, has been approved.

This equipment offers suitable cross-country mobility for in-situ repairs during mechanized operations and is authorized for both mechanized infantry battalions and armoured regiments.

Furthermore, three AoNs have been issued to boost the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

The approved procurements include Dornier-228 aircraft, Next Generation Fast Patrol Vessels with high operational features for rough weather conditions, and Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels with advanced technology for enhanced long-range operations.

These additions will improve ICG's ability to conduct surveillance, maritime zone patrolling, search and rescue, and disaster relief operations.
