New Delhi/IBNS: The government has waived off the basic customs duty on imports of raw materials for manufacturing Covid test kits and antifungal drug Amphotericin B and raw material for Covid-19 test kits for a limited period.

The duty has been waived off as part of the strategy to make India's domestic industry ready for the third wave of Covid-19, which is inevitable, public health experts have said.

The duty waiver on various raw materials for Amphotericin B is available till August 31, an official said, according to a Hindustan Times report.

The duty waiver on raw materials for manufacturing Covid test kits is effective till September 30, it added.

On June 12, GST on Amphotericin B and Tocilizumab was reduced from 5 per cent to zero, taxes on Remdesivir and anticoagulants like Heparin had been reduced from 12 per cent to 5 per cent.

A flat GST rate of 5 per cent was has been set for all such drugs that would be recommended by the ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) and the department of pharmaceuticals (DoP) for Covid treatment.
