Centre likely to slash AGR dues of Airtel, Vodafone Idea after PMO review
New Delhi: Telecom giants Airtel and Vodafone Idea are set to get a major relief, as the Central government is considering a sharp reduction in their Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues, NDTV Profit reported, citing sources.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has examined the Department of Telecom’s latest proposal on AGR relief.
If cleared, Vodafone Idea’s dues could be cut from ₹83,400 crore to about ₹28,000 crore. Earlier, the government had converted part of the company’s dues into equity.
Similarly, Airtel’s dues are expected to fall from ₹42,000 crore to around ₹10,000 crore, sources added.
