Bandhan Bank acquires branding rights for Salt Lake Sector V metro station

Kolkata: Bandhan Bank has entered into an arrangement with Kolkata Metro for the branding rights of the Salt Lake Sector V metro station.

With this, the station will now be called “Bandhan Bank Salt Lake Sector V Metro Station”.

Notably, this is the first of its kind arrangement for the Indian Railways where a private entity has been given the branding rights to an entire station.

While such arrangements are seen across various metro stations in other larger cities, this is the first for Indian Railways and also for the city of Kolkata, whose metro service is the oldest in the country.

Salt Lake Sector V was where Bandhan Bank was born. The registered office and the head office of the bank are in Sector V, which is also a major IT hub in Kolkata.

The station also promises to have good commuter traffic in future given that it would be an interchange point for the commuters travelling on the Howrah Maidan - New Town line and the Airport - New Garia line. With a large number of professional, commercial and educational establishments in Sector V, the metro station would soon be bustling with people across age groups and social strata, for whom, the metro promises to be the choice of commute.

Bandhan Bank was also the first BFSI brand to tie up with Kolkata Metro for their Smart Card branding a few months ago. It was a maiden deal in the history of Kolkata Metro as the rapid transit system joined hands with a private entity to leverage its vast user base via an exclusive medium.

Speaking about the association, Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, MD and CEO, Bandhan Bank, said, “We are privileged to partner Kolkata Metro. Sector V is very close to the hearts of all at Bandhan Bank and I am glad that Indian Railways chose us to be a part of this first-of-its-kind partnership. Bandhan Bank has received the love of this city ever since the Bank started operations and this association is another way for us to show our gratitude to the citizens of Kolkata and the commuters of Sector V.”

Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway commented, “Metro Railway is very happy that Bandhan Bank, a home-grown organisation has associated with us for this novel initiative of station branding. Bandhan Bank is a house hold name in the city of Kolkata. I congratulate the bank for yet another first of its kind initiative in this city.
