New Delhi: The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested Deepak Gupta, brother-in-law of BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, on Friday in connection with allegations of fund misappropriation, media reports said.

The arrest follows an FIR filed in May 2023 against Ashneer Grover and his wife, Madhuri Grover, on charges of criminal breach of trust, cheating, and forgery. Deepak Gupta is the husband of Madhuri Grover's sister.

According to ANI, Gupta is currently in custody at the EOW Police Station and will soon be presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) at Saket court.

Madhuri Grover faces multiple charges under sections 406, 408, 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), said media reports.

This legal development is part of a broader legal battle, including a civil suit filed by BharatPe against Ashneer Grover and his family, seeking up to Rs 81 crore in damages for alleged embezzlement of funds.

In December 2022, BharatPe had filed a criminal complaint against five individuals, including Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri, her brother Shwetank Jain, her father Suresh Jain, and Deepak Gupta.

Following this, the EOW registered an FIR in May 2023, implicating Grover, his wife, and other family members in the fraud case.
