Andhra Pradesh's land proposal to TCS mirrors Gujarat’s famed Sanand land deal.

Andhra Pradesh offers TCS land in Vizag for 99 paisa to woo major tech investment

Amravati: In a strategic move to attract major IT investments, the Andhra Pradesh government has allotted 21.16 acres of land in Visakhapatnam to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for a token price of just 99 paisa, media reports said.

The proposal is expected to be approved at the cabinet meeting scheduled for April 15, according to a Moneycontrol report.

The land allotment forms part of the state’s broader push to transform Vizag into a major technology hub.

The initiative traces back to October 2024, when IT Minister Nara Lokesh pitched the idea during a visit to Tata’s Mumbai headquarters, urging the tech giant to consider setting up a large-scale development centre in Andhra Pradesh.

Following that meeting, sustained discussions between TCS and the state government took place over the subsequent months, culminating in Monday’s cabinet-level clearance.

According to officials, the move is intended to signal Andhra Pradesh’s readiness and competitiveness in attracting top-tier IT companies.

The decision has drawn parallels to a widely cited industrial policy move by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister, allotted land to Tata Motors in Sanand for 99 paisa—a deal seen as a turning point in Gujarat’s automotive industry.

“This is our Sanand moment for the IT sector,” a senior government official said. “We want Vizag to be on every tech company’s map.”

TCS has not yet officially revealed the scale or specifics of its planned operations in Visakhapatnam.
