Andaman Nicobar: Compulsory Rapid Antigen Test on all incoming passengers at Port Blair from Apr 16

Port Blair/UNI: There has been a rapid surge in the COVID-19 positive cases in the South Andaman District in the last few weeks and in order to contain further spread of the virus, the District Magistrate, South Andaman has ordered compulsory Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) shall be conducted on all incoming passengers at the Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair with effect from April 16, 2021, free of cost.

This will be in addition to the mandatory RTPCR negative test report to be carried by the passengers, already in force.

“All the inbound passengers have been directed to cooperate with the officials performing the test at the airport and support the Administration in the fight against COVID-19. Passengers who are tested positive by the Rapid Antigen Test shall be kept under Institutional Quarantine as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Government facilities or will have the option to stay in identified hotels on payment basis” said an official order issued by District Magistrate of South Andaman.

As many as 38 new cases were detected in South Andaman yesterday, taking a total number of active cases to 106.

Till now 5247 people have been tested positive in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, out of which 5078 have recovered while 63 deaths have been reported.

Meanwhile, the four-day 'Tika Utsav' has been a tremendous success in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with about 8734 beneficiaries vaccinated in 36 sessions and by about 85 teams in the entire Union Territory.

With this, the total number of people in the age group of 45 and above vaccinated till date has reached more than 60000 in the islands.

Keeping in view the good response to the vaccination drive, the A&N Administration has decided to extend the drive for few more days.
