Salem: Commenting on the new EV policy announced by the Tamil Nadu government on Monday, Chocko Valliappa, Vice Chairman, Sona Group of Education Institutions, Salem said the industry growth needs charging with fresh tech talent.

The new EV policy released by the Tamil Nadu government is a welcome step to boost manufacturing of EVs as also to propel the adoption of electric mobility by individuals and institutions at a fast pace.

However, the EV industry's future lies in completing an ecosystem conducive to producing electric vehicles in the State by creating a pool of trained technical manpower at graduate, polytechnic diploma and researchers at post graduate level.

EV technology needs specialised knowledge and skills, and the Sona Group of Institutions can support this initiative by introducing new programs in electric mobility by leveraging experience of Sona group's 65-year Thiagarajar Polytechnic College and 25-year-old autonomous Sona College of Technology in preparing talent for Tamil Nadu's auto industry.

Tens of thousands of Sona Group's alumni are working in the State's auto industry including nearly 400 in Ashok Leyland that include the company's Chief Operating officer and his core leadership wearing a Thiagarajar Polytechnic alumnus badge proudly.
