Religious scholars to lead upcoming Afghanistan government: Taliban

Kabul: Taliban members have said religious scholars should take the lead and be the core of the upcoming government in Afghanistan.

The Taliban had invited tens of religious scholars in a grand gathering to ask for their cooperation in forging a sound political system and inviting people to support the future government, Khaama Press reported.

Spokesperson of the Afghanistan Islamic Emirate Zabiullah Mujahid was quoted as saying by the news agency that they are creating an all-inclusive government in which the rights of all people will be secure.

Mujahid assured the former officials of the government to be secure to return to work and since they have announced a general amnesty, revenge will not be sought.

“Irrespective of the partisan, lingual, and sectarian values, the people should come together and work for the development of Afghanistan as Afghans," he was quoted as saying by Khaama Press.

On August 15, the Taliban entered Kabul.

President Ashraf Ghani resigned and fled the country to prevent what he described as bloodshed that would occur if militants stormed the city.

Many countries have since started evacuating their citizens and diplomatic personnel from Afghanistan.

Anti-Taliban demonstrations are taking place in different parts of the globe.
