Pakistan: Shangla residents protest against ‘harassment’ of woman in Nadra office

People protested in Pakistan's Belkanai area on Tuesday to protest against the alleged sexual harassment of a woman visitor in the local office of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

They demanded an immediate arrest of the suspect—a Class-IV Nadra employee—for criminal proceedings, reported Daws News.

The demonstrators protested by blocking the Belkanai-Ajmeer Road and staged a rally against the incident.

They insisted that a Nadra official tried to sexually assault a woman, who went to his office to make the computerised national identity card, the newspaper reported.

The woman filed a harassment complaint with the Olandar police station, according to SHO Bakht Zeb Khan.

He told Dawn that the woman was allegedly harassed in a room where she went to get herself photographed for CNIC.

The SHO said as the suspected harasser fled, the woman reported the incident to her brother and father-in-law, leading to street protests.

He said the protesters dispersed after  the registration of an FIR against the suspect.

The suspect was later held and produced before the court.
