Bangladesh: Speedboat collides with cargo vessel in Padma, 26 killed

Dhaka: At least 26 people were killed when an overcrowded speedboat collided with a sand-laden bulk carrier and sank in the Padma River in Bangladesh on Monday, media reports said.

The accident occurred at the old Kanthalbari ferry terminal in Shibchar upazila of Madaripur around 8am on Monday, reports Dhaka Tribune.

Some people went missing following the tragedy.

Five people were rescued alive and sent to a hospital as the rescue operation continued for several others who might still be missing, confirmed Banglabazar Ferry Ghat Traffic Police Inspector Ashikur Rahman to Dhaka Tribune.
