A large number of social media users criticised the gesture of an Indian man who shared a video on the internet where he could be seen asking internationally famed pop star Selena Gomez to chant 'Jai Shree Ram'.

The viral video was shared on Instagram by Pallav Paliwal.

He wrote: "One of our follower met Senena Gomez and she said 'Jai Shri Ram' on occasion of Diwali."

In the video, the Indian man could be seen asking Selena to chant 'Jai Shree Ram'.

The actress, however, politely refused her request by saying, "Thank You, honey."

Several netizens slammed the man in the video  for making such a request to the singer.

One of the users wrote: "Don't you guys feel embarrassed?"

"Im Hindu and this is embarrassing," another Instagram user Sneha wrote in the comment section.

"I am embarrassed on his behalf!" wrote a netizen named Sakshi.
