Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has said that the landmark India–US trade deal is in its final stage of detailing and will be completed very soon.

Sharing an image of his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on X, Jaishankar wrote, “Concluded a productive and positive visit to the US. Thank Secretary Rubio for his warm hospitality.”

He added, “The historic India–US trade deal is in the final stages of detailing and will be completed very soon. It opens up a new phase in our bilateral ties, with vast possibilities for the relationship.”

Jaishankar also highlighted growing cooperation in key sectors. “Our critical minerals cooperation is advancing rapidly. Expect further engagement on strategic issues, defence and energy in the coming days. Overall, strong momentum is evident,” he said.

The minister’s visit comes amid renewed momentum in India–US ties following the announcement of a new trade agreement between the two countries after months of negotiations and trade-related tensions.

According to an earlier statement from the US Department of State, Secretary Rubio and Minister Jaishankar welcomed the trade deal reached between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under the agreement, the United States will immediately reduce its reciprocal tariff on Indian imports from 25 per cent to 18 per cent.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said the deal was reached “out of friendship and respect” for Prime Minister Modi. He added that India has agreed to eliminate tariffs and non-tariff barriers on US goods.

Trump further stated that India would halt purchases of Russian oil and increase energy imports from the United States, linking the move to broader efforts aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

Jaishankar visited the United States from February 2 to February 4 to participate in the Critical Minerals Ministerial.
