'Every country has stupid people': Marco Rubio calls racist remarks against Indians 'dumb comments'
New Delhi/IBNS: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday described alleged racist remarks targeting Indians and Indian-Americans as “dumb comments” made by “stupid people” while responding to a journalist during a press briefing in New Delhi.
Rubio responds to racism question
Rubio was asked about the controversial remarks during a media interaction held as part of his four-day visit to India.
Though the reporter did not mention any specific individual, Rubio strongly criticised such comments.
“I'll take that very seriously about the comments. I'm sure that there are people who have made comments online and in other places because every country in the world has stupid people.
“I'm sure there are stupid people here; there are stupid people in the United States who make dumb comments all the time,” Rubio said.

“Our nation has been enriched by people who have come to our country from all over the world, become Americans, assimilated into our way of life, and contributed greatly,” he added.

Meanwhile, Rubio underlined the growing strategic partnership between the United States and India during delegation-level talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi.
‘Strategic allies, not just regional partners’
Rubio said the ties between the two countries go beyond conventional alliances.
“The US and India aren’t just allies. We are strategic allies and that’s of critical importance,” he said, highlighting cooperation between the two nations across multiple regions of the world.
He further noted that while Washington works with several countries globally, its relationship with India remains unique because of its strategic depth.
