Shock crash in Beijing: Plane slams into city’s tallest skyscraper

The crash reportedly led to an immediate evacuation of the premises, while authorities cordoned off the surrounding area.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether there were any casualties or how many passengers were on board the aircraft. The origin of the flight and the circumstances leading to the crash are also yet to be confirmed.

According to local reports, videos circulating online show the aircraft striking the upper floors of the 528-metre (1,732-foot) skyscraper, with debris falling onto nearby roads and green spaces, the South China Morning Post reported.

Unverified flight data shared on Flightradar24 and cited by CNN appeared to indicate a severely deviated flight path after the aircraft took off from Beijing’s Shifosi Airport.

A woman identified by her surname Lin told the South China Morning Post that she was urgently evacuated from the building around 6 pm, adding, “I ran out without my ID card or bag.”

Police have cordoned off the area, and investigations are underway. However, there has been no official statement from authorities regarding the crash.

The incident comes shortly after Beijing implemented sweeping new airspace regulations, including tighter controls on recreational flying and consumer drones.

As per videos circulating online, the building was partially damaged in the crash, and a car parked close to the building was also impacted by the incident.
