India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing IDFC First Bank ODI series against New Zealand after reporting acute discomfort in his left lower rib area.

Sundar experienced the issue while bowling during the first ODI at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the all-rounder will undergo further medical scans.

“He will undergo further scans, following which the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion,” the board said in an official statement.

As a result, Washington has been sidelined for the remaining two matches of the series, prompting the Men’s Selection Committee to name Ayush Badoni as his replacement.

Badoni is set to join the Indian squad in Rajkot, which will host the second ODI.

Who is Ayush Badoni?

Ayush Badoni represents Delhi in domestic cricket and has steadily built a reputation as a dependable middle-order batter with part-time bowling abilities. He is also a familiar face in the Indian Premier
League (IPL), where he plays for the Lucknow Super Giants, delivering several impactful performances in pressure situations.

His call-up marks a significant milestone in his career as he earns his first opportunity in the Indian ODI setup.

India’s updated squad for 2nd and 3rd ODIs vs New Zealand:

Shubman Gill (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (Vice-Captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ayush Badoni
