His appointment was confirmed following the BCCI's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Sunday.

He will now step into the shoes of 1983 World Cup hero Roger Binny.

Apart from Mithun's appointment, Rajeev Shukla was named the vice-president of the board.

Congratulating the new BCCI chief, Jitendra Singh wrote on X: "A momentous occasion to celebrate!"

"Mithun Manhas has been officially declared as the new President of the ‘Board of Control for Cricket in India’ #BCCI. What a providential Sunday for the erstwhile district of Doda, one of the remotest parts of Jammu & Kashmir, which incidentally also happens to be my own home district," Singh said.

Born in 1979 in Jammu and Kashmir, Mithun was a well-known cricketer in the domestic circuit, though he never played for the national team.

Mithun captained the Delhi side when several senior international players were away for international duty.

He played for Pune Warriors, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils in his IPL career.
