Losing their first wicket in form of skipper Rohit Sharma with no score on the board, Patel and Rayadu each slammed a half-century to put up a crucial 137-run stand.
While Patel scored 81 runs off 58 balls, Rayadu played a quickfire knock of 65, consuming just 37 balls.
The duo hit 14 boundaries and six sixes among them.
Mohit Sharma bowled brilliantly towards the end to claim three wickets, while one each was claimed by Sandeep Sharma, Mitchell Johnson and Axar Patel.
Punjab had a modest start, losing Murali Vijay for 19.
The first wicket partnership provided them with 20 runs, which was followed by another short lived one.
The 12-run second wicket partnership was followed by 89-run stand between Shaun marsh and Glenn Maxwell.
Though Marsh (45) missed out on a half-century, his compatriot Maxwell made it count, but fell soon after for 56.
Miller too made a significant contribution with the bat, scoring 30 runs but the others failed to rally around the Punjab skipper.
Jasprit Bumrah was the wrecker-in-chief for his side, picking up three wickets.
Tim Southee and his Kiwi compatriot Mitchell McClaneghan chipped in with a brace each.
Patel was elected the Player of the match.
