IPL 2024: Know about first female auctioneer Mallika Sagar

| @indiablooms | Dec 18, 2023, at 06:31 pm

For the first time in the history of Indian Premier League (IPL), a female auctioneer will take the centre stage at the auction for the upcoming season of the mega cash-rich T20 tournament.

From IPL's inception in 2008 to 2018, the auction was conducted by Richard Madley.

Madley was replaced by Hugh Edmeades, who continued till 2023.

Edmeades suffered a medical emergency during the auction in 2023 and his left-over job was accomplished by India's Charu Sharma.

Mallika, 48, will not only be the first female auctioneer in IPL but also the only Indian so far to run a full auction.

But she is not remote to the world of auction. Earlier, Mallika conducted the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 and 2024.

Prior to WPL, she was a regular auctioneer of the Pro Kabaddi League.

An art collector from Mumbai, Mallika has an experience of 25 years in the auction arena.

In 2001, she started auctioneering, becoming Christie's first Indian auctioneer. She also led the auction of Mumbai's Pundole's Art Galleries.
