Kolkata, Oct 3 (IBNS): Martin Guptill departed for 24 runs post lunch following a 55-run opening stand with Tom Latham here on Monday.

The Kiwis notched up a fifty plus partnership for the opening wicket for the first time in the series, as New Zealand looked assured heading into lunch on day four of the second Test match here on Monday.

Ashwin accounted for Guptill's wicket, trapping him in front of the stumps.

The visitors are chasing a score of 376 runs to win the match ans level series 1-1.

Martil Guptil (24), who was a tad unlucky in the first innings as he dragged a ball onto his stumps to get out, survived a call earlier which left the Indian skipper fuming.

Tom Latham (31) and Henry Nicholls (0) are at the crease.
