India struggled to put up a strong attack at that point of the game.
It was in the 36th minute when India scored the equaliser as Mandeep Singh deselect a shot past Kyle Pontifex in the Kiwi goal.
Nick Wilson scored in the 41st minute to take 2-1 lead for New Zealand.
India will need to win against Malaysia to keep chances of moving to the final of the tournament alive.
