Mumbai, Jun 23 (IBNS): The BCCI on Thursday announced Anil Kumble as India cricket team's head coach for the next one year.
This was announced by BCCI President Anurag Thakur. "Mr Kumble is a great cricketer, he is the right choice" said Thakur, adding that the process of selection was
transparent.

Batting and bowling coaches will be named later.

BCCI said professionalism was followed in selecting him.

Former skippers Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri are in contention for the role of the coach.

Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, all former players, shouldered responsibilities for selection.

A right-arm leg spin bowler, Kumble, who was also India team Test captain, took 619 wickets in Test cricket and remains the third-highest wicket taker—only behind Muttiah Muralitharan and Shane Warne—as of 2015.
