Women fighter pilot in IAF from June 18, says Air Chief Marshall

New Delhi, Mar 8 (IBNS) The Indian Air Force (IAF) is all set to get its first batch of women fighter pilot on July 18, Air Chief Marshall Arup Raha said.

Raha was quoted in the media as saying that so far three women have volunteered for the job and are undergoing training. They will be allowed to take flight from June 18.

The implementation came after the Air Force Chief announced his plan earlier in 2015.

Earlier, though women were allowed to take up jobs in the IAF, it was limited to a certain proportion and mostly found themselves with administrative jobs. The decision to allow women to fight alongside their male counterparts was hailed as a welcome change by many.
