West Bengal Election update: First phase to take place on April 4 and 11
Kolkata, Mar 31 (IBNS) In West Bengal, 296 candidates will fight for 49 seats in the first phase of election to be held in two parts -- on April 4 and April 11.
On April 4, a total of 18 constituencies, 6 of Pashcim Medinipur, 9 of Purulia and 3 of Bankura will go to poll.
All these 18 seats are witnessing a multi-corner contest, the lowest being a 5-cornered one in Manbazar (ST) of Purulia.
The highest number of candidates is 12 at Purulia of the same district.
On Aoril 11, polling for the remaining 31 seats will be held, where the lowest number candidates (3) will contest in Keshpur (SC) of Paschim Medinipur district.
The highest number of candidates among these constituencies is at Chhatna of Bankura where 10 candidates are in the fray.
Similarly, Bandwan (ST) of Purulia is also witnessing a 10 cornered contest.
The lowest number of candidates for the six Jangalmahal seats of Paschim Medinipur is 6 while that for the three Jangalmahal constituencies of Bankura is 7.
Similarly, Purulia district also witnesses a multi-corner contest in all the nine seats and the lowest number of candidates is 5 at Manbazar (ST) constituency.
While there are 6 four-cornered contests in Pashcim Medinipur on April 11, two seats have a six-corned poll and in four seats there are 5 candidates each.
Similarly, in Burdwan, out of 9 seats there are 3 six-cornered contests and 5 five-cornered one, the highest number of 7 candidates being in Durgapur Paschim.
Bankura on the other hand, is having more candidates. There are 6 candidates in 4 out of a total 9 and two are having a 4-cornered contest. The highest number of 10 candidates is at Chhatna and the lowest is 4 at Kotulpur (SC) and Sonamukhi (SC). Onda is having a 7-cornered contest while there are 5 candidates at Indus (SC).
