Twisha Sharma wanted to leave after pregnancy news, husband tells police

Fresh details have emerged in the death case of Twisha Sharma, with her husband Samarth Singh telling police that her behaviour changed after her pregnancy was confirmed on April 17.

During questioning by the police, Samarth Singh reportedly claimed that tensions in the marriage escalated soon after the couple returned from the hospital following confirmation of the pregnancy.

'She said she could not live a domestic life'

According to investigators, Samarth Singh told police that Twisha Sharma said she wanted to return to her parents' home and could not continue living a “domestic life”.

He claimed that she flew to Delhi the same evening and went to her family home in Noida.

NDTV, quoting police sources, reported that he further told investigators that after repeated persuasion, Twisha returned to Bhopal on April 23 along with her mother and brother. However, the relationship allegedly remained strained.

Dispute over travel plans

Samarth Singh reportedly told police he had already booked tickets to Bengaluru for April 24 and that Twisha had initially agreed to travel with him.

Later, he claimed, she changed her mind and expressed a desire to travel to Ajmer to stay with her brother instead. The disagreement allegedly triggered another argument between the couple.

Messages to mother spoke of distress

Meanwhile, messages exchanged between Twisha Sharma and her mother painted a starkly different picture of her married life.

According to her family, the messages referred to tensions over her pregnancy and described a hostile atmosphere at her in-laws’ home.

In one message, she reportedly wrote: “Mera dum ghut raha hai maa” (I am feeling suffocated, mother).

Her family has alleged that she was subjected to mental harassment and dowry-related abuse.

Final phone call before death

Twisha Sharma’s brother, Harshit Sharma, said she had spoken to her mother around 10.05 pm on the night of May 12.

“During the conversation, she abruptly disconnected the call after her husband entered the room,” he said.

The family claimed repeated attempts to contact Twisha, Samarth Singh and his mother afterwards went unanswered. Hours later, Samarth’s mother, Giribala Singh, informed them of Twisha’s death.

Twisha Sharma was later found hanging at her Bhopal residence.

Samarth Singh under police remand

Samarth Singh is currently on a seven-day police remand and was questioned for nearly two hours on Saturday.

He had reportedly been missing since the day Twisha Sharma was found dead.

After an anticipatory bail plea was rejected, he surrendered in Jabalpur before being arrested and brought to Bhopal.

His mother Giribala Singh has secured pre-arrest bail but has been accused by police of not cooperating with the investigation.

AIIMS team to conduct second post-mortem

A four-member medical team from All India Institute of Medical Sciences will conduct a second post-mortem examination in Bhopal following directions from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The case has triggered widespread outrage, with calls for a detailed probe into the allegations of dowry harassment and mental torture.

Twisha Sharma, a resident of Noida, married Samarth Singh in December 2025.
