Twisha Sharma death case: Husband Samarth Singh arrested after 10 days on the run

After remaining untraceable for 10 days following the death of his wife, actor-model Twisha Sharma, husband Samarth Singh was arrested on Thursday after appearing before a court in Jabalpur.

The arrest comes amid mounting allegations of dowry harassment and emotional abuse levelled by Twisha’s family against Samarth and his mother, retired judge Giribala Singh.

Arrest after dramatic court appearance

Samarth Singh had approached the Jabalpur court hours after withdrawing his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The court directed him to surrender before a court in Bhopal, following which a police team waiting on the premises took him into custody and escorted him to the state capital.

In an apparent attempt to avoid identification, Samarth entered the court premises wearing a mask, cap and sunglasses, with his face almost entirely covered.

Twisha found hanging at Bhopal home

Twisha Sharma, 33, was found hanging at her residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12.

While the case was initially treated as a suicide, her family soon alleged that she had been subjected to sustained harassment over dowry demands and emotional abuse after marriage.

Refusing to accept the findings of the initial investigation, the family demanded a second post-mortem examination, claiming several injuries on Twisha’s body were not properly documented.

Family members also said Twisha had repeatedly confided in them and close friends about feeling trapped in an unhappy and suffocating marriage.

Mother-in-law’s remarks trigger outrage

The case drew further attention after Samarth’s mother, retired judge Giribala Singh, made controversial remarks about her late daughter-in-law.

She alleged that Twisha suffered from depression and consumed narcotics, while also questioning her character and personal relationships.

Speaking to NDTV, Twisha’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, described the atmosphere in her marital home as unbearable.

“How can someone continue living in a house where her character, integrity, and even the legitimacy of her future child are questioned?” he asked, alleging that his sister had endured constant humiliation.

He also accused Giribala Singh of attempting to interfere with the investigation.

High Court orders second post-mortem

In a significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday ordered a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma’s body.

The examination will be conducted in Bhopal by a medical team from AIIMS Delhi.

The family had pointed to inconsistencies in the first autopsy report, including discrepancies in Twisha’s recorded height and the alleged omission of injury details.

Police seek cancellation of Giribala Singh’s bail

The police have also approached the High Court seeking cancellation of Giribala Singh’s anticipatory bail.

According to investigators, WhatsApp conversations between Twisha and her parents contain “clear allegations” against both Samarth Singh and his mother.

Police further alleged that Giribala Singh attempted to influence the investigation and tamper with evidence, actions they say violate the conditions of her bail.
