TMC, opposition councilors clash in KMC over Narada News sting operation issue

Kolkata, Mar 16 (IBNS): Councilors of Congress and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) were allegedly manhandled by ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilors on Wednesday while they were staging protest over Narada News sting operation issue in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).

During the interim budget session in KMC, opposition councilors had started demonstration, demanding the resignation of Kolkata Mayor Shovan Chatterjee for his alleged involvement in taking bribes.

Few opposition councilors threw currency-size papers in the air to show their protest.

When the demonstration was underway, few TMC councilors allegedly manhandled two CPI-M councilors- Mrityunjay Chakraborty and Rinku Naskar, and Congress councilor Prakash Upadhaya.

Congress councilor Prakash Upadhaya told IBNS, "When I and other opposition councilors had started agitating against the Narada News sting operation issue, few TMC councilors manhandled us and tried to beat us."

Opposition councilors, later, demonstrated in front of KMC Mayor and Chairperson's offices.

However, when the opposition councilors were going to lodge complaint in New Market Police Station, KMC Chairperson Mala Roy handled the situation, by calling for an all-party meeting on Mar 23.

A newly launched news portal Narada News on Monday released a sting operation's video footage in New Delhi, where few TMC leaders, MPs, MLAs and ministers were shown taking bribes.

TMC leaderships, however, alleged that the video footage was doctored.

Note: IBNS did not conduct the sting operation and we did not verify the video footage.
