Thirty eight killed in China fire

Beijing, May 26 (IBNS) A fire devastating fire that swept through a rest home in Henan province of central China has killed 38 people, media reports said on Tuesday quoting Chinese authorities.

The fire broke out Monday night in an apartment building being run  as a rest home in  Pingdingshan city. At least six persons were injured in the incident.

China's official Xinhua News Agency reported that a rescue operation was still on. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Xinhua said the building housed 51 elderly people. Some of the victims where charred beyond recognition.

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged rescue personnel to urgently aid the injured and victims' families, state broadcaster CCTV said.
