Sreesanth and 41 others discharged by court in IPL spot-fixing case

New Delhi, Jul 25 (IBNS) A Delhi court on Saturday discharged former Indian pacer S. Sreesanth and 41 others in the Indian Premier League 2013 spot-fixing scandal on the ground of lack of evidence.

Reports said the entire case has been dropped.

Sreesanth, a member of the Rajasthan Royals team in IPL was handed a life ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 2013 for his alleged connection in spot-fixing.

On May 16, 2013, the Special Cell of Delhi Police carried out raids in Mumbai and arrested  Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - all Rajasthan Royals players-on charges of spot-fixing.

During the arguments on framing of charges, the police had referred to telephonic conversations among players.

The Police had also alleged that call detail records clearly reflect the links the accused persons had with a crim syndicate.

The court had earlier declared underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and his aide Chhota Shakeel as proclaimed offenders. Both are away from the country.

Recently,  a Supreme Court-appointed panel headed by former Chief Justice of India R.M. Lodha, suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals for two years each due to betting.
