Six Maoists apprehended in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 20 (IBNS): Assam police on Thursday apprehended six Maoists including a woman leader from Cachar district, officials said.

Following a tip-off, police launched operation at Balachara village under Borkhola police station in the Barak Valley district and the maoist cadres.

"The maoist cadres planed organizational set up in Barak Valley and other districts of the state, " a top police official said.

The nabbed Maoists were identified as Nirmala Biswas alias Swapna Choudhury from West Bengal, Amiruddin Ahmed alias Bikash, Siddan Orang, Biju Orang, Bipon Orang and Biful Orang.

Police said that Nirmala Biswas hailing from Nadia district of West Bengal, who joined in the organization in 2000, was hiding in Assam since 2013.

"Two over ground organizations are working in Assam for spreading Maoist ideology and recruitment drive. Few youths of the state have been already motivated and joined left wing, " Assam Police ADGP Pallav Bhattacharya said.

The Maoists had already formed Upper Assam Leading Committee comprising Upper Assam districts.
