Guwahati, June 21 (IBNS) : The security forces have killed at least 12 militants belonging to National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit faction) in the past six months and apprehended more than 300 terrorists belonging to the Bodo rebel group, ULFA(I) and Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) across the state, army officials said on Sunday.

Addressing the media in Tezpur General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 4 Crops of the Army, Lt Gen Sarath Chand said since the December massacre last year in Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang district, at least 12 NDFB(S) militants were killed during gun fight with the security forces.

“The Army and the Assam Police had captured more than 300 militants of different rebel groups during the period in the state,” the army official said.

“Most of the districts, including lower Assam, had remained peaceful since December 23 last year when at least 81 tribal people were killed by NDFB(S) militants,” Chand said.

The GOC of 4 Crops of Army said that in the recent operation in Manas National Park, the security personnel while  patrolling on a boat intercepted militants on the river bank inside the national park, leading heavy exchange of bullets but militants had managed to escape from the spot.

“None of the security person was injured, but the NDFB(S) had made false propaganda on the matter. Security forces had busted a camp of NDFB(S) and recovered huge cache of arms-ammunition, ration, war like stores during the operation,” Chand said.

The top army official said that the militant groups of the north eastern region are engaged in arms and drugs smuggling.

“They had collected more funds by smuggled arms and drugs,” Chand said.

The top army official said that, security forces will continue massive operation against the militants in the region.
