Mumbai, Mar 17 (IBNS): In a major verdict given on Thursday, the Bombay High Court set aside the death sentence awarded to 2010 Pune German Bakery blast case convict Himayat Baig.

Quashing his death sentence, the court confirmed the life sentence imposed on the convict for possession of explosives under the Indian Explosives Substances Act.

Himayat Baig, who was arrested on Sept 7, 2010 in connection with the case, is the prime suspect of the blast at the bakery in Koregaon Park on Feb 13, 2010.

Baig was awarded death sentence by a Pune court in connection to the 2010 German Bakery bomb blast case in 2013.

Baig was arrested after the Mumbai Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) recovered explosives and literature on bomb-making from his home in Udgir in Latur district.

The German bakery was a favourite hangout joint for foreigners, located close to Osho Ashram.
