Gandhinagar, Apr 17 (IBNS):Curfew has been imposed in Gujarat's Mehsana town as several people were injured after clashes broke out between Patidar pro-reservation campaigners and police on Sunday.

Protesters were reportedly demanding their jailed leader Hardik Patel’s release.

Mobile internet services have been reportedly suspended in several parts of the state.

Gujarat CM  Anandiben Patel urged people to maintain peace in the state.

"I urge my fellow citizens of Gujarat to maintain peace & harmony across state. Violence has never & will not be the solution of any matter," Patel tweeted.

"As we all know it, Gujarat Government has formed committee of 7 Ministers which is making persistent efforts to resolve the issue amicably," she said.

"My sincere appeal to everyone is to cooperate with the State Government & help maintain peace of our beloved Gujarat," the leader said.

Protesters belonging to the Patel community have been demonstrating in the state  in recent times as they demanded for reservation in educational institutions and jobs.

Hardik Patel was arrested last year on charges of sedition.
