Pakistan condemns terror attack in Punjab

Islamabad, July 27 (IBNS): Pakistan on Monday condemned the terror attack in Indian state of Punjab which left several people dead.

"We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist incident in Gurdaspur, India, today, in which a number of precious lives have been lost. There are reports of others having suffered injuries. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"Pakistan reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations," it said.

"We extend heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Government and people of India and wish the wounded speedy and full recovery," it said.

The anti-terror operation in Punjab's Gurdaspur district came to an end on Monday evening with security forces killing all the three terrorists, reports said.

At least 11 people have been killed in the attack which include  5 policemen and 3 civilians, reports said.

The gun battle between the terrorists and security forces was held for nearly 12 hours. The terrorists were holed up in Dinanagar police station.

The police personnel killed in the encounter includes the Superintendent of Police of Gurdaspur district.

Reports said more than 300 soldiers were backing up the operation to flush out the terrorists, that was carried out by Punjab police and a team of Swat police from Jammu and Kashmir. The elite National Security Guard or NSG was on standby.

The gang was believed to have sneaked into the Indian territory through the India-Pakistan border in Jammu.
