New Delhi, Apr 24 (IBNS) The opposition, including the Congress,TMC, Left and the NCP staged a walk out from the Lok Sabha on Friday opposing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Amendment Bill tabled by the government.

The opposition demanded that the bill be referred to the standing committee.

Introducing the GST bill, finance minister Arun Jaitley said goods and services tax (GST) can increase the country's GDP by by 1-2 per cent.

When objected by Congress MPs,  Jailtley said, "UPA must start supporting legislation that it has itself introduced".

The Bill on GST was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December last.

Congress MP Deependra Singh Hooda said, "the goverment is trying to bulldoze Parliament. We will oppose the GST bill with all the might that we have."

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanded that the GST bill should be sent to Parliament's standing committee as there have been many ammendments to the original bill.

the GST is being sought to be implemented as a new indirect tax regime which will subsume various levies including sales, excise and service taxes from April,2016.
